Additional Information

Wigmaking can be taken as a part of a cosmetology or hairdressing program, or as a separate course. These certificate courses are generally offered at private beauty schools or community colleges.

"A cosmetology program will give you the basics in hairstyling, coloring and all you need to know about hair, skin and nails," says Marilyn Maple. She coordinates programs at a beauty academy.

"Wigmaking is a specialty program," she says. "You can learn a little about it in a general cosmetology program, but the specialized program will tell you all about tying, hair direction and that type of thing."
