Many ethicists have backgrounds in law, psychology, ethics or human relations. The most successful professional ethicists have a PhD in philosophy, ethics, psychology or a related field, with concentrated work in ethics.

Most medical ethicists have a medical degree. Remember that medical school takes a long time to complete, so it may take you some time if you want to pursue a career in medical ethics.

Prepare yourself for university by taking social studies and political science classes. If you're interested in a specific area such as medicine, supplement your studies with science courses like biology or chemistry.

Do a lot of reading and keep up with current events to be familiar with the moral issues people face today.
