Ethicist

Money & Outlook

Insider Info

The outlook for ethicists is good, according to Brian Schrag. He is the executive secretary of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.

"The demand...is increasing," he says. "Many corporations now employ an ethics officer."

Demand for ethicists in the research sciences, business and medicine is already high, and it will only grow, he says. Demand for ethicists is also rising in other professional fields.

"Other professions are now recognizing the need," he says. Those fields include engineering and journalism.

"Professional ethicists are scattered all over the place," says Schrag.

"Some work in medical schools or in hospitals. Some work in corporations...some are academics. So the [salary] range is probably considerable."

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
