Additional Information

In the U.S., no training is available for building and structural movers.

"Actually, structure moving is basically a trade. Though some of us are self-trained, mostly the training is on the job," says Carl A. Tuxill. He is the executive administrator of the International Association of Structural Movers (IASM). "The association is working to improve this problem. The training courses are held at our conventions."

"Some secondary education is needed," says house mover Murray Nickel. "But it depends on how far they want to go in the occupation. In today's environment, I would suggest that anyone wanting to pursue a career in the structural moving industry should acquire a degree in engineering or have some engineering background."
