House and Structural Mover

Money & Outlook

Insider Info

Carl A. Tuxill is the executive administrator of the International Association of Structural Movers (IASM). "There are 1,328 movers listed as members in the U.S., but not all movers are members," he says.

While most movers hire employees, the numbers vary depending on the size of the company. The number of people working in this industry is unknown.

"The outlook for this work depends on the general economy plus the real estate market," says Tuxill.

Donna Landers is a mover in Fort Worth, Texas. "There is a tremendous need for movers," she says.

"Not everyone can afford to buy a house. There will always be a need for second-hand and recycled items. Someone who wants to get a job with a mover and work his or her way up will have a good chance of finding employment."

"The labor rates vary considerably from state to state," says Tuxill.

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
