Real-Life Communication

You are about to visit a new town that has never heard of your missionary group. When you go to towns, you like to host a charity meeting where you speak to the crowd informing them of your missionary work and asking for donations.

You want to advertise in the town newspaper at least a month ahead of schedule, so that those who would be interested in joining your meeting will be able to plan ahead. This way, too, you will be letting other believers know that you are coming to town, and giving them enough time to speak with their friends and plan ahead.

"The rest of the world does not live on our schedule, nor do they prioritize the same things we tend to take for granted," says missionary Barney Davis.

You have to find a way to make it seem like an attractive priority for the reader's weekend.

You need to advertise at a cost of 50 words or less for $20. With the following information in mind, write an advertisement about your visit.

  • Your mission's name is God's Word and you are based in New York.
  • You will be hosting an information meeting on your missionary work with singing, words of worship and a question period.
  • Everyone is welcome -- encourage those coming to bring a friend.
  • The meeting will be held at the Anytown Church at 7 p.m., June 7th.
  • The church will be supplying refreshments; payment will be by donation.
