Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You turn down the proposal.

This is the real-life decision that Internet consultant Allan Todd would make if he knew a project was too large or complex. Although an Internet consultant should not be afraid of big projects, they should know when someone else would best serve a client. The best policy is to be honest and upfront with clients.

Todd is usually able to take on projects, however, regardless of their size or complexity. How? By outsourcing and hiring subcontractors. But Todd still has to oversee everything to ensure deadlines are met and the quality of work is high. His reputation depends on it.

"If you get a bad reputation, if somebody gives you a bad review, you've got to deal with that," says Todd. "In some ways I'm a lot like my clients. I have to manage my reputation online as well."
