Education Level

Education training and experience are required at different levels for success in different occupations.

High school (GED), plus on-the-job training

All enlisted service members complete basic military training, which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field, and covers tactical and survival skills, physical training, military life and customs, and weapons training. Radar and sonar operators in the Military will gain skills through classroom study and on-the-job experience. Training length varies by specialty. Job-specific training topics relate to operating radar or sonar equipment, and may include: * Operation and maintenance of radar and sonar equipment * Identification of ships, submarines, aircraft, and missiles * Computation of aircraft or missile speed, direction, and altitude * Field tactics and combat communications
