Additional Information

Multiple universities in the United States offer baccalaureate and master's degrees in prosthetics and the related field of orthotics (manufacturing and fitting of braces).

A number of colleges offer one-year certificate and technician programs for those who already hold degrees in related fields. Typically, it takes five years to become a certified designer -- four years of education plus one year of residency. Increasingly, students enter the field with backgrounds in science and engineering.
