Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You let the boiler operator proceed with repairs while you check on the particulars about the one valve.

You try to contact your colleagues about how to fix a particular valve. After a few minutes, you get through to your co-worker on the cellphone and explain the problem. When you tell him about the valve, he becomes agitated. "Don't do anything until you have let the pressure off of this valve!" he warns.

You drop the phone and try to get the boiler operator's attention as quickly as possible. You have a potentially dangerous situation on your hands.

"You have to decide whether to approve a repair right away, or whether to wait," says boiler inspections manager Malcolm Bishop. "You have to make quick but careful decisions."
