For a pharmacy technician, there's more to interpreting a prescription than just being able to read the doctor's handwriting.

"Interpreting the prescription involves determining exactly what the health-care provider has ordered, what the dosing is [usually written in Latin abbreviations], and correctly determining the exact amount of the medication required to fill the required regimen," says pharmacy assistant Andrew Cordiale.

You are a pharmacy technician. An elderly woman named Mrs. Rose has just handed you a prescription slip that contains, among other things, the following terms: dosage form, narcotic and cranial. She wants to know what those words mean. The definitions are given below.

CranialRelating to the skull
NarcoticAny drug that induces drowsiness, sleep, stupor or insensibility
Dosage FormThe manner in which a drug is dispensed (tablet, liquid, etc.)

How would you explain these terms to Mrs. Rose in simple English? Be careful -- you're not allowed to counsel patients. You need to explain to Mrs. Rose that if she has specific questions about her prescription, she needs to talk to the pharmacist.
