Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You say yes.

Although you will be making a claim based on the results of only one experiment, you say yes to the FastGrow managers because all they have asked you to do is make a true statement: your most recently conducted research showed that FastGrow seeds outgrew HeartyGrow seeds by 20 percent.

You perform in the commercial, all your friends see you and are impressed, waiters around town recognize you and give you the best tables in their restaurants, and FastGrow outsells HeartyGrow for the first time ever. Everyone is happy, right? Wrong.

"As a professional, I would be reluctant to put my reputation on the line based on limited data, and if the data indicates that neither product performs better than the other, to make any other claim would be irresponsible," says Norm Hopper.
