Real-Life Math

Travel guides have to plan all aspects of a trip. This means making detailed itineraries and figuring out costs for entire trip packages.

You are a travel guide for a bicycle tour company. You are in the process of arranging a cycling tour of France's Normandy coast for a group of Canadian and American tourists.

You must prepare a budget estimate for the trip. Today you are working on securing accommodation for a night's stay in Honfleur. You have found a great bed and breakfast with an excellent view of the picturesque town for 25 euro per person.

You need to give the estimate in Canadian and American dollars for your customers. This means figuring out the exchange rates for all the prices you list in the budget.

"We use math without even thinking about it," says Sandra Crooker, a travel guide. "We are constantly making change, figuring out rates and giving cost estimates."

How do you figure out the exchange rates?

Remember:

1 euro = $1.07910 US
1 euro = $1.64282 Cdn
