Additional Information

Golf course management and superintendent programs are available at community colleges and universities. Eligibility requirements vary but often include being at least 18 years of age, having a high school diploma and having experience in a related area -- like golfing or the hospitality sector.

Golf club managers come to the occupation from a variety of backgrounds. Some are graduates of one- or two-year training programs that are specific to golf course management. Others are professional golfers (members of the PGA) and have successfully completed specific training.

Club managers trained and certified by the PGA are required to complete five steps of training, one of which is to complete a degree or diploma in business. To register as an apprentice, a person must be 18 years of age, and have completed Grade 12. Once enrolled, the apprentice has three to seven years to complete the five-step program.
