Real-Life Decision Making

You're an experienced carpenter, but lately you haven't been getting too many calls for jobs. Winter is just around the corner and that means business will become even slower.

You've decided to take a course on upgrading homes to make them more energy-efficient. The course lasts eight weeks. During the fifth week of the course, you get a call. A client has some work for you -- renovating a house and building a deck.

You're excited about the work, and it will pay well. The only hitch is that the work might only last for three weeks. Of course, there's also the possibility that this job might keep you busy for another year.

You could use some quick cash to help with mortgage payments and buy your daughter a new bicycle. But you also know that completing the course could bring you more work and a steadier income in the future.

What do you do? You could drop the course and take the job, or pass on the job and continue with the course.
