Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Your apprentice has posed the questions. You answer:

"Plasterboard nails are long and are used to fasten the plasterboard to interior wood wall studs. These nails are much thicker and stronger than nails used for interior finishing work.

"Finishing nails are made of small fine wire and have small heads. Plasterboard nails would make huge holes and ruin the wood in finishing work. Similarly, finishing nails wouldn't even be sturdy enough to hammer into wood wall studs, let alone fasten the plasterboard.

"You would never use flooring nails on a cabinet project, because a cabinet needs the small wire finishing nails. The wood is thinner than the wood used on flooring. Spiral-shanked flooring nails are designed specifically for laying tongue-and-groove hardwood floors. Again, the smaller finishing nails would not be able to do the job of a flooring project requiring sturdy nails."

Keven Ferry, a self-employed carpenter, says that the importance of communications skills in carpentry, and in life in general, is huge.

If a person can't communicate, the work won't get done properly.
