You implement programs to add cardboard and disposable diapers to the recycling program.
This shouldn't be too difficult, since you already have newspapers and other paper products included. The vendors you send the collected materials to will most likely be able to take cardboard.
Adding any new material to the program, however, will raise costs for the program. How does your budget look?
Also, adding disposable diapers will add a bigger cost to running the program because few vendors deal with recycling this type of material.
This is not what solid waste reduction manager Alec Cooley would do.
"A major part of this job is persuading people to change long-ingrained habits," says Cooley.
"Being able to listen and understand the other person's concerns and points of view is important to be successful," he adds. This is especially important when expanding current recycling programs.
