Real-Life Math

You are a developmental service worker at the Bleedeau Regional Special Care Center. Since you are the only person on your ward today with any experience, it is up to you to organize a day trip for 26 mentally challenged kids. You're supposed to take them to the zoo, after which they'll all eat supper at a restaurant.

As the organizer of the day trip, you must figure out how much it will cost. Here are your expenses:

Zoo day pass -- $7.99 for staff, $5 for kids
Fuel for bus -- $55
Meal -- $8.50

"The math we use is business math, basic calculations and budget," says Susan Michael. She's a developmental service worker. "Basic accounting knowledge is helpful as standard business practices apply. Although it is not a business, we do have to deal with the outside world. Thus, the math."

Figure out how much money you will be withdrawing from the center's activity fund. Consider that you will be taking 26 kids and four staff members with you on this day trip.
