About This Career

Human intelligence specialists identify adversarial elements, strengths, dispositions, tactics, equipment, personnel, and capabilities through collecting information from people. HUMINT specialists screen documents and other materials to identify potential source leads. They conduct and oversee interviews, interrogations, screenings, and debriefings in English, and work with translators when necessary. They also exploit information found in a variety of media. HUMINT specialists may also plan and implement psychological operations to control and influence groups through persuasive communications.

A person in this career:

• Identifies adversarial elements, intentions, compositions, strength, dispositions, tactics, equipment, personnel, and capabilities through the use of military source operations (MOS), interrogations, screenings, debriefings
• Assists in the translation and exploitation of documents and media
• Conducts debriefings and interrogations of HUMINT sources, under supervision; assists in screening HUMINT sources and documents; participates in HUMINT source operations
• Performs HUMINT analysis as required and prepares appropriate intelligence reports
• Plans, analyzes, develops, designs, distributes, disseminates, and evaluates psychological operations (PSYOP) across the range of military operations
• Plans and organizes work schedules and assigns specific tasks in support of PSYOP missions; conducts liaison with the supported unit staff; coordinates resource requirements for the development, production, and dissemination of PSYOP products
• Uses foreign language skills and/or interpreters to conduct Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) activities
• Acquires intelligence information from human sources in response to military and national requirements by supervising and conducting tactical HUMINT collection operations
• Uses interpreters and manages interpreter/translator operations; conducts liaison and coordination in foreign language with host nation agencies
• Screens documents and open source materials to identify source leads; contacts and assesses leads to determine value and validity of source information
