You are a meteorologist for a local television station.

You're working on the afternoon forecast. Your audience tunes in for your accurate forecasts, but they don't want a whole lot of cryptic scientific information. They want information they can understand easily.

It's summer, so you'll focus on how the weather will affect outdoor activities. People are counting on you to let them know what they need to wear and what they can do for the day.

This is your data:

Temperature:85 degrees
Wind speed:E 4.8 mph
Relative humidity:85 percent
Visibility:7.4 miles hazy

Study this data and figure out what it means. Then write a few short paragraphs explaining the weather. Remember that it must make sense to the audience. Do they need to wear coats or T-shirts? Will it be a good day to water-ski? Swim? Fly kites?

For the purposes of this activity, temperature can be described as the degree of hotness or coldness. Wind speed is the rate of motion of the air within a unit of time. Humidity describes the dampness in the air. Visibility is the greatest distance you can see prominent objects with normal eyesight.
