Real-Life Math

As a professor, you are required to conduct research. All of your research requires that you perform many mathematical analyses.

Some of your mathematical equations are simple. Others are very complex. Some of them are simple enough to do, but require that you be able to look at a problem in a different way to understand how to find the solution.

Your current research has left you with one of these problems that is simple to calculate once you understand how to "see" the problem.

You must find the area of a rectangular shape. However, the shape is not truly rectangular. Each side is composed of wavy lines that move up and down like waves.

The length of the shape contains 3 semicircular waves. The width of the shape contains 4 semicircular waves. The diameter of each semicircular wave is 4 units of measurement.

What is the area of your shape?
