Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here are some example answers, from the desk of herbalist Shawn Schultz:

  1. What is the tea made from and how do I take it?

The tea is made from equal parts dandelion, artichoke and Oregon grape root. Start with half a teaspoon of herbs in one cup of boiling water for one week. After a week, increase to one teaspoon of herbs, steep five minutes covered, strain and drink unsweetened. Drink this tea before a meal.

  2. What should I stay away from while on this treatment?

Do not use iron supplements in any form. Read labels, especially on cereals, to see how much iron is added, and stay away if iron is added to the ingredients. Also stay away from foods that cause attacks of pain. Fatty or spicy foods, eggs and pork often trigger gallbladder attacks. Limit sweets. These include honey, raw sugar, brown sugar and alcohol.

  3. What should I put in my diet to help this treatment work better?

Include a lot of bulking agents in your diet. These include psyllium, oat bran and wheat bran. Also excellent food for the liver and gallbladder are artichokes, lemons, beets and fennel.
