Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You keep looking for another source of funds.
This is the real-life decision made by Lola Davidson, an independent documentary
producer. She says that you should always trust your instincts when it comes
to accepting money for a project.
"Always go with your gut," says Davidson. "If it's your idea, you want
to protect it as much as possible. You don't want people coming in and saying,
'No, do it this way.'"
One option would be to just go ahead with production, even if you don't
have all of your funds lined up. For example, if you're only missing the money
you need for post-production editing, you can always seek those funds after
you're done filming.
"You should be able to go ahead and shoot it and have it in the can, and
then you can go raise money for post-production afterward," says Davidson.
She says that raising the last bit of money this way can be easier because
you have something to show potential investors.
