You have picked up a group of tourists at the airport, and you are driving them around the city on a tour. They have a few hours before they need to catch their next flight.

The tourists come from different countries. They are not accustomed to using the same system of measurement that you use in your country. There are lots of questions about temperature, speed limits and distance. There are also lots of questions about currency, because the tourists do not use the same money that your country uses.

You are used to these questions, so you carry a conversion chart around with you. When asked a question, you explain to the person how the conversion is done, and then you give them the correct figure.

Here is the information:

1 kilogram = 2.2046 pounds
1 kilometer = 0.6214 miles

$1 US = 1.2367 Cdn
$1 US = 0.766636 euro

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius: subtract 32, multiply by 5 and divide by 9.

Today, your group asks you the following questions:

  1. The temperature is 38 F. What is that in Celsius?
  2. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour. What is that in kilometers?
  3. A ticket costs $25 US. How much is that in Canadian funds? How much in euros?
  4. If a 3-pound bag of apples costs $1.50, how much would that cost per kilogram?
