Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You've just been hired by Heritage Gardens to design a software program to get their company online. You're talking with John, the owner, in order to get an idea of what might be needed on the site.

Here are some of the important questions you ask yourself about what John has told you:

  1. What are the products they currently offer?

Heritage Gardens currently offers heritage roses, heritage spring bulbs and organic vegetable seeds.

  2. Why do they need the customers to fill out a questionnaire?

The company wants customers to fill out a questionnaire to find out what climate zone they live in, how much sun their garden receives and how much of each product they require.

  3. What would they like in the catalog?

In the catalog, John wants descriptions, pictures of the plants and planting and care guidelines.

  4. Why do they want a question and answer section and an online chat room?

John wants a question and answer section so that the staff at Heritage Gardens can answer questions. An online chat room would provide a chance for customers to share information amongst themselves.

In addition to being able to communicate with users, software engineers need to be able to communicate with co-workers.

"Software engineers have to be able to work together in teams," says Bob Baber. He is a computer science professor. "Many of these applications are designed in a group."
