Real-Life Decision Making

You're a high school teacher who coaches one of your school's sporting teams.

Lately, one of the team members has started to act differently. The last time she changed with the rest of the team, everyone made a fuss over a big bruise on her shoulder. Now she changes in a washroom stall -- and that's when she shows up at all. Besides missing practice, she seems withdrawn and distracted. When she does play, her game is really off.

The whole situation reminds you of a seminar you went to recently about physical abuse.

As a teacher you're required to report any evidence of abuse, but you haven't seen any bruises or injuries. Even if you're just suspicious, you've been told to report it to school authorities. On the other hand, you could be totally wrong. Maybe the student is just going through a phase.

You've met the girl's parents a couple of times at games and they seem like caring and concerned people. You'll look like a troublemaker if you accuse them of anything without any evidence to back it up.

What do you do?
