Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You stop the work crews.

You've worked hard to map out an extension for a road through the forest. You've been scouting the area and checking for any signs of wildlife habitat. Your primary concern is to maintain a balance with the environment. When you see a nest after the work crew has taken down some trees, you call for work to stop.

You point out the nest to the supervisor and explain to him that it was not visible to you before, due to the density of the trees. The supervisor is used to this sort of delay. He asks you to do what you have to do and come back to him with Plan B for the road work.

John Pineau is the executive director a forestry institute. He says nests must be protected. "Operations will shut down -- the law is the law."
