Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
Focus on one version at a time.
This allows for your development team to stay focused. They can work out
all of the bugs and make sure the product meets the customers' needs.
This is the real-life decision that software product manager Justin Grant
has made in such situations.
"Most companies, most teams and most people have a really
hard time doing two things at once," says Grant. "So I've found it's often
much more effective to focus a team around a goal, rather than two goals or
three goals or five goals. Achieve that goal, and then move on to the next
goal.
"Now, obviously, you don't always have that luxury," Grant says. "A lot
of times you have to do multiple things, but I've never been in a case where
a company was trying to spin off multiple products at the same time, where
it wouldn't have made sense to [focus on] one at a time, because you just
get your teams focused better."
