Real-Life Communication

In a world as hectic and fast-paced as an investment house, conference calls and meetings in crowded boardrooms are a way of life. In these meetings, market analysts provide a flood of teaching aids, handouts and written reports on the companies they follow. Many investment houses provide a monthly newsletter as well.

The clients communicate their investment needs to their stockbrokers, who turn to the market analysts for recommendations. In dealing with large amounts of money, the margin for error must be kept minuscule.

Market analysts spend a lot of time researching the market and keeping up with particular companies. They take data from a number of different sources, such as newspapers, the Internet and professional tools that provide financial statistics and ratios on individual companies.

You're a market analyst for a large investment firm. What kinds of things do you think you could find out about a company through Internet research and your local library that would be useful? Try to come up with a list of questions you would want to be able to answer.
