Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You ignore the hat but watch for bigger problems.

You figure it's not a big enough problem to delay the shoot. Why bother the director?

At the end of the day, the director reviews the scenes filmed that day. Because of the camera angle, the different hat on the extra is quite noticeable. The director is furious.

You tell him you didn't want to bother him with such a small problem. "Whether it's a small problem or not is for me to decide," the director snaps.

You've weakened the trust the director has in you. It's going to take a while to regain it.

You should never ignore continuity problems like that. "It may be very important in terms of the audience, because it may take them out of the show," says script supervisor Jean Bereziuk. "Then it just becomes a show to them and they're not involved in the script anymore."
