Photomicrography is a specialized trade. Few people outside the scientific community know much about it.

You may be called upon to help explain your profession. You are going to talk to some high school science students about why what you do is important. You can also give them a quick overview of how it works.

Here are some basic facts you'll want to include:

  • Photomicrography is photography through a microscope. Recording images from the microscope on film allows scientists to produce a hard copy for research records.
  • A photomicrographer may be a scientist, a pathologist or a photographer.
  • Photomicrography can be used in many areas. These include medical research, ecology and agriculture. It can also be used in criminal investigations and textbooks.
  • It allows scientists to share information from their microscope with others around the world. That allows research to advance at a much faster pace.
