Real-Life Math -- Solution

A. How many additional gigabytes of Internet traffic will this feature generate on your servers if 75 percent of your users download the ANON feature?

Gigabytes = 75% x 100,000 users x 275 MB / 1,024 MB per GB
Gigabytes = 0.75 x 100,000 users x 275 MB / 1,024 MB per GB
Gigabytes = 75,000 x 275 / 1,024
Gigabytes = 206,250 / 1,024
Gigabytes = 20,142

B. If the partner wants $250,000 for the ANON feature and Internet traffic bandwidth costs $2 per GB, how much will this deal cost in total?

Cost = $250,000 + (20,142 x $2)
Cost = $250,000 + $40,284
Cost = $290,284

"I really haven't used math much in privacy other than budgeting... of your resources for your office," says CPO Merri Beth Lavagnino. "And statistics -- we do a lot of statistics when we do what we call 'metrics.' (Measuring some aspect of an organization's activities.)

"In order to justify something, you might need to do some metrics, but typically you're getting those metrics from a person operating a service for you," Lavagnino adds.
