Real-Life Communication

You are the curriculum director for Maplewood School. You have received a complaint from the parents of one of the students. They are extremely angry and are demanding that a teacher be fired. They claim that the teacher has been rigid and strict with their son and has not provided a warm, nurturing environment.

After talking with the teacher's principal, you learn that the teacher is an excellent teacher with many years of experience. However, there is some truth to what the parents are saying. She is a businesslike person with a no-nonsense approach to education. The young boy requires emotional support.

The teacher is not a bad teacher. It is a case of personalities not matching. Now she feels unjustly criticized.

Both the teacher and the parents are angry and taking strong positions. You can see that this is not a clear-cut issue. Neither side is completely in the right or completely in the wrong.

You decide to invite them all together so you can sit down and talk this out.

Write the letter that you will send to the parents.
