Additional Information

Human rights specialists tend to have advanced degrees in human rights and development or related areas. Education in law, political science, international relations and in the social sciences can also be helpful.

Students often begin with a BA and then specialize in areas such as law or sociology. "We have people with journalism, anthropology, sociology and education backgrounds," says Patricia Poirier. She works for a human rights group.
