Sometimes people don't fully understand or appreciate the role of regulatory affairs. For example, you have lunch with Aunt Martha one day. Since she has no children of her own, she has decided to contribute to your college fund. But there is one condition -- she must approve of your major.

She is thrilled that you've chosen chemistry. But when you tell her that you hope to someday work with the FDA or some other regulatory agency, she gets very upset!

"Why in the world do we need regulations on everything?" she asks. Aunt Martha is still upset that her favorite diet pill, the one that helped her lose 20 pounds, has been pulled from the market. She insists that she knows what's best for herself, and if she wants to take a chance, that's her business.

You let Aunt Martha vent, knowing that you won't get a word in edgewise until she cools off.

When you get home, you decide to e-mail her a letter explaining your choice and why you think it's important.

Here's the assignment:

Write a short persuasive paper explaining the importance of a career in regulatory affairs. Be sure to include a title.
