Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You refuse to make the changes.

You stick to your guns and refuse to make changes. You explain to the art director that you think this card will sell. You give examples of other successful designs in this genre. You make a strong case for your design as it is. You explain to him why you think the changes he has suggested will not be popular. You are respectful and polite, but firm with your beliefs.

Designer Ian Challis says in this case you've "given an ultimatum" to the art director. The ball is now in his court. He must decide whether or not to print the card. In his experience, the outcome can go either way.

The art director tells you he will talk to his staff before giving you his final decision. He comes back to you in a couple days and accepts your design. The card is published and you are paid. Now you just have to hope you were right and it sells!
