Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You decide to leave the baby camel with its mother.

You will watch the calf, and help it figure out how to nurse when it's ready. This would be a good decision if the calf had the strength to stand.

However, if the calf is so weak that it can't stand, it won't be able to reach its mother to nurse. It needs help, and you will probably have to bottle-feed it.

"It's a big commitment once you take it on," says zookeeper Grant MacFarlane. "Whether you do it depends on lots of things, like the strength of the mother. She could be weakened by it all. It can also depend if the weather is poor."
