Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You try to convince the client that the design is more effective as is.

Industrial designer Jennifer Linnane chose this solution. But she did not merely repeat information the client had already heard. She came up with an alternative.

"By not only standing my ground, but developing an alternative method of production as well as a solid case as to why my solution should stand, I beat the odds and was able to maintain the original design esthetic," she says.

"Better than that, I received a patent for my innovation. It's an example of going the extra mile and then seeing it rewarded. The motto that the client is always right still stands, but sometimes you need to use your powers of reasoning and put your marketing hat on to get everyone to see that there's value in the design side of the solution -- and there are lots of ways to skin a cat!"
