Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Your proposal depends heavily on competitive pricing.

Unfortunately, another carrier comes in with a lower bid. Since everyone has been talking price, the trust company goes with them. You wish you had taken a more inventive approach to the situation and talked about your company's ability to find innovative workplace solutions.

The lowest cost isn't always the best option, says vice-president of telecommunications Laura Geery-Larson. "There are always behind-the-scenes costs that any particular vendor isn't going to tell you upfront," she says. "So you kind of need to have an idea of how the business works and the system that you're implementing."

An expanding company often has money to spend, so competing on price wasn't the way to beat the competition anyway. Better luck next time.
