Real-Life Decision Making

Flight instructors must be decisive. They must make good decisions because the consequences of an error can be fatal for the instructor, the student and members of the public.

"If you have a student on board, you have to make really good decisions," says Anton Tammpere. He is a flight instructor. "And you can't take any shortcuts."

That's because the student may think that cutting corners during any part of a flight is OK. Such an attitude can have dramatic consequences.

You are a flight instructor with a student on board. You are flying through a mountainous region. You notice that the student made a navigation error and is flying into a narrow valley, which has a dead end. This mistake will throw off the entire lesson plan and could end in tragedy.

What do you do?
