Real-Life Communication

You are a swine technician for a large pork production farm. You are currently assigned to the farrowing room, which is the room where the sows give birth. You notice that the sows aren't eating properly. This is a serious problem because if the sows don't eat, they can't produce milk for the piglets when they are born.

You don't know why the sows refuse to eat. It could be because the temperature is not correct. It could be because the fan isn't working properly. It could be because there is mold on the feed. It could be any number of things.

You will have to raise this issue in your weekly staff meeting and inform the manager and other staff about the problem. Since everyone working at the farm is part of a team, what happens in one area affects what will happen everywhere else.

You must explain the situation clearly to your team members and the manager. You must ask for suggestions and feedback but you must be careful not to sound as if you are blaming someone else for making a mistake that caused the problem. The idea is to communicate clearly without offending other people.

Write what you intend to say.
