Education Level

Education training and experience are required at different levels for success in different occupations.

High school (GED), plus on-the-job training

All enlisted service members complete basic military training, which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field, and covers tactical and survival skills, physical training, military life and customs, and weapons training. Job training for emergency management specialists consists of classroom and on-the job instruction, including practice in the use of nuclear, biological, and chemical detection and decontamination equipment. Training content varies depending on specialty and may include: * Protective and defensive procedures for chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear (CBRN) threats * Preparation and communication of emergency plans * Damage control * Firefighting systems and equipment * Search and rescue operations and procedures * Use of CBRN detection, defense, decontamination, and monitoring equipment
