Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You go over to the manufacturing site to look at your video card and the system yourself.

This is the real-life decision computer hardware professor and designer Daniel Davison would make in a similar situation.

"In general, you want the thing to be produced as much as the manufacturer does, so you'll work with them to the best of your ability," says Davison.

He notes that it might be possible to get test results by e-mail. This could spare you from having to travel to the manufacturer. But you should do whatever it takes to solve the problem.

"The general correct answer is that you should work with the person to figure it out," says Davison. "The wrong response... is you start to dig in: 'I know this thing works, it's your problem.' That's not the right answer."

Computer hardware designers run into many problems during the process of their work, and must be able to make decisions and find solutions to make a product function properly.
