The educational requirements to become a victim advocate vary according to the area you're in. Advocate Taunya Northup says this field involves nursing, psychology, counseling and social work. She says a degree in social work is probably best.

"They're going to need some understanding of legal terminology, so some background in the legal system is helpful, but you don't have to have a law degree."
