You believe that the student must have access to government services if he is to turn his life around. This test is probably the only way he will ever qualify for those services.

You will be taking a chance that the government department may not recognize the test. On the other hand, you're sure you can explain the test results and the student's situation well enough that the funding will come through.

You don't want to take the chance that the student will be denied these special services. If the student is to make it through school, it's critical that he has access to these resources.

Tim Hartshorne is a psychology professor. He says it's common for school psychologists to make tough decisions. These kinds of decisions are what make the profession "mentally demanding," says Hartshorne, "especially if you're wrapped up in the individual's concerns."
