Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Because the error message on your computer read "setup file not found," you would choose point number three because the setup file is missing. Carrie Van Etten is a product engineer and render coordinator. She says this problem is usually caused before the information ever reached the render farm.

Sometimes there might be more than one error message, so it's up to the render wrangler to determine if files are missing. If the animator never checked the file in the first place, it's the render wrangler's responsibility to notify the animator and explain the problem.

"Good communication skills are really important," says Van Etten. The render wrangler may need to explain the problem to the animator in written form by e-mail or sometimes in person. "Sometimes you can't fix the problem yourself," she adds. "They have to fix it."

But it's up to the render wrangler to catch the error and notify the animator of the problem. In other words, you need to know what you want to say and how to say it. Van Etten says it's important that the problem is communicated in such a way as to not add additional tension in an already high-pressure atmosphere.
