Real-Life Math
"When you get into how computers work, you get into very detailed math," says Lance Stewart. He is a senior systems administrator.
"But getting into specifically e-mail, you are looking at statistical information -- keeping track of how many e-mails are moving through your system to keep track with project growth, etc."
You are an e-mail administrator for a university. Part of your job is to know how many e-mails are going in and out of your network and the peak time of e-mail traffic.
The following is a chart showing outgoing e-mail for 4 departments during the first semester of the school year. Use the chart to answer the questions.
- What was the average number of e-mails sent by each department during the first semester?
- Which was the peak month for all outgoing e-mails? Which month had the least outgoing e-mails?
