You're sweating a bit, but you decide to cut him short and tell him to get to the point.

"I know you have a good point in there somewhere, but right now, we're not getting it. Try taking a minute or two and see if you can say what you want to say in 30 seconds," you say.

The man looks a little stunned but stops and sits quietly for a minute. When he speaks again, he makes his point and makes it very well. The man's co-workers are impressed and the great communication continues.

This is a real-life decision made by public speaker Jim Mulvaney.

"I wasn't sure what he was going to do, but he started over again and in 10 seconds he said something so powerful that people's mouths fell open. He had something to say, but nobody was getting it because of how it was presented," says Mulvaney.
