Real-Life Decision Making

It's just before lunch, and the bell above the repair shop door rings, indicating that a customer is entering. You look up to see a snowboarder, obviously angry and frustrated, carrying his board into the shop.

He tells you that he hit a rock, and has no idea how to repair his board. You look at the damage. "He hit a rock so that the edge came out the side of the board, and opened up like a sandwich," says Jason James, a snowboard technician.

Wow! That's a fair bit of damage.

You know of a repair method that will fix the board, but it is quite expensive. Unfortunately, the customer says he doesn't want to spend much money to fix the board. "I just can't afford it," he says.

What can you do? You look over the board and think up a much cheaper way to repair the board. You might be able to rivet the board together and apply some epoxy.

It would be a cheap method, but you don't know if it will work because you haven't tried the repair technique before.

What do you do?
