Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You fail Peaches, knowing that she may become more of a hindrance than a help.

This is the real-life decision of trainer Joanne Ritter. You realize that your client is very anxious to begin her life with Peaches, but this match just wasn't meant to be.

If you carried on with training, you would be denying your client a healthy dog. The average guide dog should be able to guide for eight to 10 years. At this rate, Peaches would be effective for maybe a couple of years at best.

Your client deserves more than this, and so does Peaches. You have made the right decision. "Often, you just can't go with what you feel," says Ritter. "Even in the toughest of times, it's a matter of keeping your head above your heart and doing what is correct and proper."
